This isn’t our first rodeo. In fact, The Black Pug is pug pub #3.
A short stroll from Warwick Castle, this was our first pub in Warwick after building two crackers in Leamington. To find such a historic, beautiful building was one thing, but to have the space to create the county's best pub garden made us the talk of the town.
You’ll find great pub food our community love, pints and people worth travelling miles for, and a home-from-home - whether you’re a day-tripper or a Warwick stalwart.
Oh, and if you bring your dog (no, it doesn’t have to be a pug!), we might not let you leave!
Don’t judge a pug by its collar
An ancient pub building does not mean we serve up outdated “pub classics” from days gone by. The days of soggy burger buns and burnt faggots are long gone!
Yeah, you’re going to find bangers & mash and fish & chips. But not any ordinary ones. These are Pug Pub, Red Tractor Assured sausages and MSC-certified cod. Not just properly certified by the right people, but they also taste damn good.
You’ll also be visiting the newly crowned Pub of the Year 2025 - at least according to the folks at Great British Pub Awards.

We held our pug event here - RescuepugswithLily - and have to say the staff were amazing, extremely dog friendly lovely outdoor area with under cover seating and secret garden. Well worth a visit.

Breathing new life into a local institution
A roll down the hill from Warwick Castle, The Black Pug is very much part of the story of Warwick’s history. Originally a poorhouse when built in the 17th century, it’s been a pub for nearly 150 years now.
Sure, we’ve modernised it a little since then, but the beams and cosy nooks tell a million stories.
Our modern, but real, take on pub food and drink has won us awards and local praise, but we’re in it for more than that. Our pug, Captain, needed a hangout, and so we made it the best dog-house he would ever find.
Oh, and it’s a pretty decent spot for humans too…
